Police Nab Serial Killer, 3 Fake Customs Officers in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command, yesterday, said it had arrested 3 fake Custom officers and a serial killer, Olufemi, popularly known as Femi Kuti, who claimed to be a leader of the Aye Confraternity in Ijebu-Ode.

The state Police Commissioner, Ikemefuna Okoye, who spoke while parading the suspects arrested by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, described the arrest of Femi Kuti as a major breakthrough for the command, accusing him of masterminding the spate of cult-related killings in Ijebu-Igbo and Ijebu-Ode axis in the last three months.

Okoye said his men also arrested Brilliant Oruaro, Ajayi Jemibewon and Farotimi Sunday at Ibafo axis of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with 11 different cars which they allegedly took from their owners, while masquerading as Customs officers.

According to him, the suspects operated on the highway as genuine officers, and wave down motorists, demanding for Customs duty papers from them.
He said: “They had illegally impounded cars and 11 of such were recovered from them. The ring leader, Oruaro, who hails from Bayelsa State, had a car mart in Akure, Ondo State, where some of the vehicles were recovered.

“The suspects had confessed to the crime and we are calling on members of the public, who had had their cars impounded by these fake officers to come forward with genuine papers.

“The suspects said they were pushed into the nefarious activity by poverty.

“They said two of their accomplices, including a dismissed officer from Nigeria Customs Services, are on the run.”

Okoye said the serial killer had confessed to have killed no fewer than 10 people, while members of his gang, now on the run, had killed at least 50.

According to him, Kuti, who was rusticated from the Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu, was arrested around 6.30p.m. at Ijebu Ode, where he and some members of his cult were preparing to launch another attack.

Okoye added: “We got information from members of the public about him and our men began gathering intelligence report on him. We succeeded on Monday during the Ojude-Oba Festival.
“Members of his gang put up a resistance and a gun battle ensued. Eventually, he was arrested after he was shot on the left leg.

“Femi Kuti and members of his gang were drinking and smoking skonk, a type of hard drugs. He is not only a cultist, but also serial killer.

“He said himself and members of his gang had killed about 60 people.”

Meanwhile, Okoye said a special squad had been moved permanently to Ishefun, a border town between Lagos and Ogun states, to curtail the rising wave of crime in the area.
