A mother of three, who was raped by four men, is presenting facing
threat of divorce from her husband. The incensed husband has described
what befell his wife as an abomination.
The woman, simply identified as Mrs. Cesi, 27, said she was raped by
four men who fooled her into believing they wanted to buy N4000 worth of
fishes from her.
The incident occurred at Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos
State. It was gathered that in her husband’s culture, Otodo Gbame, in
Lagos State, a man must not continue to remain married to a woman who
has been raped.
According to a medical report dated, September, 13, 2014, from Lagos
State Government Health Center CMS, with Reference number: 184921 and
signed by Dr. Doyin Ramos A.M, Mrs. Cesi was raped. Mrs. Ceci who
haltingly recalled how she was raped, said she was returning from
Obalende where she sells fish, when she was stopped by the four young
men at Ikate road.
They told her they wanted to buy some fishes and requested she
followed them to Elegusi’s Palace. Mrs. Cesi said: “Since I know the
palace quite well, I followed them.
I entered their bus. The man driving suddenly drove past the palace,
driving into unfamiliar bush path. I started shouting, asking where they
were taking me, but they ignored me. When the man driving stopped, they
dragged me out. Three other men came out from nowhere.
While four of them raped me, others held my head, hands and legs.”
Mr. Cesi, the woman’s husband, confirmed the rape of his wife, adding
that according to the tradition of his people, he regretted that the
marriage will no longer continue. He added that there was no ritual or
appeasement of whatsoever to remedy the situation.
The couple is part of a community at Otodo Gbame, Eti-Osa Local
Government Area which has been at logger heads with a certain group of
people over their occupation of a portion of land at Eti-Osa.
Apparently, the group which wishes to take over the land had also
taken to scaring the present occupants by burning their homes and raping
their women. Some people believe that Mrs. Ceci is a victim of the
ongoing war.
