Research Study Shows Fewer Americans Are Interested In Getting Married

Apparently fewer and fewer people between the ages of 25 and 34 are married, and an even lower number are even interested in it. Basically what it boils down to – instead of getting married, everyone is just “shacking up” and raising kids out of wedlock. Coupled with the fact that women are more educated than ever and fewer men have jobs, it’s getting harder and harder for a lot of singles to find someone they even consider a real match. 

NBCnews: Even if you like it, many Americans may not want to put a ring on it. One in five adults 25 and older have never been married, up from nine percent in 1960, and marriage is appearing to be less of a priority for both men and women, a study released Wednesday shows. 
The study by the Pew Research Center shows that a rising number of adults living together and raising children may be contributing. Another factor is the growing emphasis never-married women place on finding a spouse with a steady job and with similar educational attainments. Women are spending more time in higher education, and the percentage of men in the labor force has fallen sharply, from 93 percent in 1960 to 82 percent in 2012. Of today’s still-single share of American adults, the 25-34 age bracket is the most available, with 50 percent of those adults never married. Better hit the books, guys.
