Two 12-year-olds Obsessed with Ghost Stories 'Lured Classmate into Woods & Stabbed Her 19 times' To Prove 'Slender Man' Myth Was REAL

Two 12-year-old girls have been accused of stabbing their friend 19 times after believing a fictional online character told them to.

Prosecutors alleged the youngsters invited the friend, who is also 12, to a slumber party on Friday evening having decided to kill her but ended up putting it off until a trip to a park the next day.

As one of the girls told the other to "go ballistic, go crazy", the victim was allegedly stabbed repeatedly in the arms, legs and torso.

One of the stab wounds is said to have missed a major artery by a millimetre.
The injured youngster was left lying in woods and had to crawl to a road where a cyclist found her lying on a pavement.

She is now in a stable condition after undergoing surgery.

The suspects were arrested several hours after the attack, and a knife believed to have been used was recovered.

According to prosecutors who outlined the first-degree attempted murder case against the two girls on Monday at Waukesha County Circuit Court in south Wisconsin, they had been planning to kill their alleged victim for months.

One of the girls is said to have told a detective they were trying to become "proxies" of a fictional character called Slender Man.

They had read about the mythological ghost-like character on a website called creepypasta.wikia.com, which features horror stories and legends.

Police were told they had planned to run away to the character's mansion in an imaginary place called the Nicolet National Forest after the slaying.

One of the girls told officers she sees Slender Man in her dreams. She claimed he watches her and can read her mind and teleport.

Court Commissioner Thomas Pieper said during one of the girls' initial court appearances on Monday: "I recognise their young ages but it's still unbelievable."

Both girls appeared in court wearing shackles and jail jumpsuits surrounded by sheriff's baliffs, who towered over them.

They were named but there is a chance that they could be moved to a juvenile court where proceedings are secret.

Family members of one of the girls wept openly as the media took photographs and filmed them. The other girl's family sat stone-faced.

Both girls were charged with first-degree attempted homicide and a court commissioner set bail at $500,000 cash per girl.

They are due back in court next week and face up to 60 years in jail if convicted.
