A drunk Texas mom ran over her
child’s father with her car and then drove into a nearby lake, nearly drowning
her 6-month-old baby in the backseat, police said.
Galveston police arrested
30-year-old Latonya Kirven Monday and charged her with driving while
intoxicated with a child in the vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon after
the Monday afternoon rampage.
Matt Grey, 70, suffered a broken
neck and is in critical condition. Kirven and her baby, who was rescued from
the sinking car, were uninjured, Houston’s KHOU reported.
Police said the incident started
Monday afternoon when Kirven “flipped out” during an argument with Grey, the TV
station reported. About 20 minutes later, Kirven drove into Offatts Bayou,
police said.
“Once the car was tipping, you see
the car seat for the baby tip over. My friend was like, ‘There is a baby, there
is a baby,” Arcizo told the TV station. Arcizo jumped in to rescue the infant
and his mother.
“I was struggling with her to get
the baby from her,” Arcizo said. “She wouldn’t give him up. She kept pulling
him from me and putting him under water.”
