The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the killing of four
persons by gunmen on Tuesday night in K-Vom village, Jos South Local
Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Felicia Anslem, confirmed the
incident to PREMIUM TIMES via a telephone interview on Wednesday.
The Special Adviser to Governor Jonah Jang on media, Ayuba Pam, also confirmed the death of four people in the attack.
A resident of the area, who gave his name as Paul, described how the
attack occurred and said the casualty may have been up to six.
“The attackers came in the night and began to shoot,” he said. “We
are suspecting Fulani herdsmen, because they have severally threatened
to attack our people in Vom.”
The police spokesperson, Ms. Anslem, said several officers have been
deployed to the area. She said investigation into the attack that
occurred while residents were asleep has commenced.
The Media Officer of the Special Task Force, STF, in charge of
security in Plateau, Ikedichi Iweha, also confirmed the attack but
declined to give any details.
Vom is about the only part of the state where the STF is not visibly
present. The soldiers were redeployed from the area about two years ago
after a protest by women who accused them of incompetence and complicity
in the attacks on the community.
