That mysterious "not for
publication" Princess Diana
photo that surfaced earlier this month has sold to a buyer - one who
wishes to remain shrouded in mystery as well.
A real estate investor from San Diego,
Calif., purchased the Princess Diana photo for $18,000, according to the New
Hampshire auction house RR
Auction.
The black-and-white image shows a young,
pre-princess Diana Spencer lounging with her friend Adam Russell, a few years
before she was married.
Russell is described by Diana biographer
Andrew Morton as the great-grandson of prime minister Stanley Baldwin and now a
deer farmer in Dorset, UK.
The two were shown back in the late
1970s, while they were on a ski holiday together, "but absolutely nothing
happened," according to Morton.
A bottle of liquor also rests on a
window ledge above her head, creating an image certain to be unfit for a future
royal family member - at least at the time.
The picture was marked "not to be
published" by the Daily Mirror in 1981; it's unclear why they
decided to sit on and not run the image for over 30 years.
After her 1981 marriage to Prince
Charles, Diana gave birth to their sons, Prince William, in 1982, and Prince Harry,
in 1984; she divorced Charles in 1996.
The following year, she died in a car
crash in Paris.
William wed Kate Middleton
in 2011; "The Spare" Harry is still single ... and he was recently
named the Top Bachelor in the World, as a matter of fact.
