Jonathan summons emergency FEC meeting

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday summoned an emergency/extra-ordinary meeting of the Executive Council of the Federation, FEC, for Tuesday next week in Abuja.
The agenda for the meeting scheduled for about 3 p.m. at the Presidential Villa was not immediately known. But, it was learnt that it would precede the Council’s normal weekly meeting on Wednesday.
However, PREMIUM TIMES gathered from reliable sources close to the Presidency that the emergency meeting might provide government the opportunity to continue the appraisal of the performance of ministries, departments and agencies, MDAs, as the outgoing year is being rounded-off.
During the last FEC meeting on Wednesday, two ministers – Stella Oduah of the Ministry of Aviation, and Omobola Johnson of the Ministry of Communications – presented their reports to members, with others expected to take their turns subsequently.
According to the source, who wished to remain anonymous, the meeting might also be used as a forum to discuss other important issues affecting the economy as well as ways to guarantee a crisis-free yuletide for Nigerians as the country looks forward to Christmas.
In spite of the approval by the National Assembly of the president’s request for additional N162 billion as extra-budgetary allocation for subsidy payment, the issue of subsidy payment to petroleum marketers remain a vexed issue, which might also form part of the agenda.
