[Video] BBC News Africa Beats: Featuring Soul Singer Bez


Emmanuel Bez Idakula was born in Jos, central Nigeria, into a home filled with gospel music and country and western. His father taught him to play guitar at the age of nine. He tells stories about true-life situations - especially love. Zucya Daya, the title of the song he performs here, means "whole heart" in his mother tongue, Hausa. Bez says people told him that Nigerians did not like guitar music, only hip-hop or Afro-pop but he thinks his success has proved them wrong.

[VIDEO] Nigeria: Wizkid Talks to BBC on His Success


His name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun. But in nightclubs, on radio stations and music channels across Africa, the name he is known by is Wizkid.

The 22-year-old singer-songwriter has quickly become one of Nigeria's hottest musicians.

He recently signed up to the Konvict label owned by US-Senegalese superstar Akon.
