A TRAGIC documentary has detailed the life of a teenager who still looked like a baby at the age of 16 due to an unknown condition.
The show, screened on Channel 5, detailed the story of Brooke Greenberg, who was born in 1993 in Maryland, Baltimore, at the low weight of four pounds and with dislocated hips.
However, while doctors assured her parents Howard and Melanie that these things could be fixed, Brooke failed to grow at the same rate as other babies.
In the documentary, Brooke's mum Melanie said: "She didn't fit with anyone else. When she hit the age of three, our life came to a crashing halt."
After a course of steroids failed, the little girl was diagnosed with Syndrome X – so-named as nobody had ever received the same diagnosis.
During the first few years of her life, Brooke suffered a series of seizures and even a stroke – and when she turned five, the child fell into a sleep for fourteen days due to a mass sitting on her brain.
The child was given 48 hours to live, but miraculously recovered.
However, Brooke had completely stopped growing, and weighed just 17 pounds for her entire life.
Due to her lack of development, Brooke looked like a seven-month-old baby when in fact she was a sixteen-year-old teenager; while she had no speech ability, was unable to walk and had to be fed via a tube daily.
