A former inmate has been accused of
sneaking back into New York's notorious Rikers Island prison disguised as a
Department of Correction officer.
Yonkers resident Matthew Matagrano is charged with impersonating
an officer and officials claims he used a badge and ID card to get into Rikers
and roam the jail for at least a week.
The 36-year-old has a spate of convictions including sexual
abuse that means he is on New York State’s sex offender register.
It was unclear why he wanted to get back into the jail, but he
has also previously been caught posing as a Board of Education worker to enter
schools.
Matagrano
apparently raised suspicions of other prison guards when he began moving
inmates from one cell to another.
